Wondrous Gifts of Grace

Hummingbird Portraits & Spirited musings for Life’s journey

An Awakening of Wonder (an excerpt)

Our world is lavish with wonder and life is continually extending an invitation
to experience wonderment’s dizzying combination of surprise,
discovery and delight. Wonder is often equal parts inexplicable and
delicious, emboldened with a heady, enlivening mix of awe and reverence.
Wondrous gifts of grace come in myriad forms and can be enormously
powerful, even transformative.

These gifts hold the potential to change us
when our eyes are open and our hearts are receptive. A profound
experience of wonder can reveal whole new worlds while altering us in the
process. It’s as if the foundational fabric of our awareness is swiftly
unraveled then brightly rewoven, with added colors, textures and
dimensions.
Wonder is integral to life and it is sparkling throughout the whole of Nature:
the heavens and the earth and everything which fills them. Regarding the
forest, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “The wonder is that we can see these
trees and not wonder more.” Yet when we do – when we see and start to wonder, to make deep inquiry and actually begin to marvel, nothing is the same, including us.

Thomas Carlyle observed, “Wonder is the basis of worship.”
