The Power and Wonder of Water – Above and Below (an excerpt)

The human body is a microcosm of the universe. Our bodies mirror the cosmos in many ways. Given this, we can draw various parallels, both poetic and scientific. Hermes Trismegistus, a Gnostic of the ancient Hermetic tradition, dating back to the first century AD, expressed it beautifully:

Carl Sagan, American astronomer and astrophysicist affirmed this same revelation by stating, “We’re made of star stuff.” Stardust from above and clay from the earth. “As above, so below.” We share the carbon, nitrogen and oxygen atoms created in prior generations of stars. And as Genesis tells us, God formed the heavens and the earth, then Adam and Eve. “As the universe, so the soul.” How amazing and wondrous is that?
